A lot has happened since New Year’s Eve. We had a very successful to Real Life Gourmet Dinner in Bern. Thanks again to all who came! In addition, I have just finished a training as a baby massage instructor, we are about to move to a new city, and preparations for the big brunch next Sunday are also happening right now. But somehow we are still at the beginning of the year. There is so much more to come. Isn’t this awesome? I have a very good feeling for this year. I believe that several wonderful things will happen..
My biggest learning of the last year, however, is that everything is going to be fine anyway, if I have a positive attitude and take things calmly. Prospi has already told you about my final thesis for the university, which I wrote following the 80/20 principle. Our wedding in September was another great example of this learning. I deliberately put myself in a positive vibe and decided to enjoy the special day without sticking to the idea that everything will be perfect. Even if the marquee would collapse and heavy rain would start at the same time, I could accept this situation and continue to celebrate. In the end, nothing collapsed, and the weather was fantastic. But this attitude has allowed me to take everything as it came, and to enjoy an absolutely magical and unforgettable wedding day full of love and positive energy. Of course, not everything came as planned. It was imperfectly perfect. And that’s how life is.
Are you also looking forward to finding out what 2018 is going to offer?
You can create a very joyful moment for yourself if you take 5 minutes to make the vegan, wholesome and extremely delicious hot chocolate I’m showing you today. I usually make this kind of hot beverages with our blender. But as I know that not all of you have a powerful blender at home, I’ve created a version that can be made with a normal hand blender.
Are you looking for a super quick and yet impressive dessert for a spontaneous summer barbecue evening with friends? Then we have the solution for you. This caramel cream consists of only three ingredients and is actually very easy to prepare. Instead of refined sugar, caramelized dates provide a wonderful flavor. The cream tastes particularly delicious in combination with the vanilla apples. It’s a light sweet pleasure for hot days. This dessert contains healthy fats and other precious nutrients. It is also an excellent snack or breakfast. When there are leftovers, I add them into my oatmeal. Continue Reading
In my last article I have told you how I follow a plant-based diet while travelling. The idea for this article came spontaneously during my three-week trip in Japan. There, it was in fact not always easy to get plant-based dishes. However, I discovered and tried a lot – which was absolutely worth it. I really like the Japanese cuisine. Often, the foods such as rice, noodles, vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, etc. were not very flavorful. Crucial for the taste was the sauce. And whenever I found sesame sauce on my dish, I was very happy because it was generally really really delicious. At the same time sweet, slightly acidic, with intense sesame flavor and the Japanese touch due to the soy sauce. Once I was back in Switzerland, I tried to make it myself. My first attempt contained about 10 ingredients. Only at the second attempt, I realized that it actually requires only 5 ingredients. Like this, I absolutely loved my homemade sesame sauce. And it’s also like this that I want to share it with you now!
We are often asked for plant-based barbecue ideas. There is actually a lot you can make. A simple classic are zucchini and eggplant slices with a little oil and salt. We also like to grill cobs, stuffed mushrooms (for example with our cashew sour cream) or avocado halves. Marinated vegetable kebabs, sometimes with mushrooms or tofu, are also very tasty.
For the side dishes, there are no limits. One of the side dishes that we especially love for barbecues is Russian Salad. Normally, Russian Salad is made with lots of mayonnaise containing eggs. However, in our recipe we suggest a very authentic and tasty plant-based mayonnaise sauce. It is super quick and easy to prepare. Of course, it is extremely versatile. If you mix it with potatoes, peas and carrots, you get a delicious, satisfying, nutritious and high-protein Russian Salad. Its mild taste fits perfectly with the rich roast flavors from the grill. If you had to pick 5 foods that you could eat on a deserted island from now on, which ones would you choose? I find this question quite difficult to answer. But that oats would be one of my foods is absolutely clear. For years I have been eating oatmeal every day for breakfast and I still love it. When I go on trips or spend one night away, there is always a pack of oats in my backpack. Always. My oatmeal gives me warmth and energy for the day. Meanwhile, I have also infected Prospi… He also eats oatmeal daily. However, his plate looks a little different, because our tastes are not perfectly identical. I’m not a big fan of raisins, Brazil nuts and hazelnuts. Instead, I’m thrilled by the flavor combination of apricot and almond.
Today I show you the recipe of my delicious and nutritious current favorite breakfast. The almond butter ensures a creamy consistency and the molasses provides some sweetness, in addition to the soaked dried fruits.
I was really surprised how easy it can be to make plant-based milk, when I tried out the recipe of “The Plantpower Way”. There are many recipes of homemade nut milk. But I really like the fact, that it is possible to make it within 5 minutes for immediate consumption. We like to drink this white drink with its mild taste just as it is or sweetened with a little honey. But you can also refine it with spices, mix it with granola or use it in other recipes. This particular cashew milk is not the only thing I like about “The Plantpower Way”. This book contains many elements that make it not only a cooking inspiration, but also a life inspiration. The content is so positive, that I close the book full of hope and with a smile in my face, whenever I’ve read some pages.
Here is my review of Rich Roll and Julie Piatt’s “The Plantpower Cookbook”. Continue Reading

Can you guess what I missed the most when I was on holidays? Organic vegetables! It was quite difficult and sometimes even impossible to find organic groceries in Portugal. I realised that we are really privileged here in Switzerland in this regard. There are many grocery stores offering a wide selection of certified organic products. Organic food production convinces me. I buy organic food for the sake of my health and in respect of the environment.
When people get to know this, they often ask me if this isn’t extremely expensive. In my opinion, this doesn’t have to be the case. If you take a little time (and I really mean only a little…) to cook your own meals, it will be possible to eat healthy, organic and cheap at the same time. I hope that more and more people will grab this opportunity. This is why I will continue my post series called „Cheap & Healthy“ today. Of course, I won’t neglect the enjoyment factor. The Mediterranean Pasta that I’m going to show you is very tasty! Continue Reading
I hope you are all well. I’m sitting with Prospi in a bar in Porto and listening to an outdoor concert while writing this article. Since we arrived in Porto, we have been living Real Life to it’s fullest: Family, friends, interesting conversations, walks, sea air, great food, port wine,… Regarding the blog recipes, we started making videos before our holidays. In the latest recipe video we published just before leaving I show you how to do our popular homemade Nutella. You can watch it on our Youtube channel.
Two weeks ago, I’ve started a post series called “Cheap & Healthy” with a baked potatoes recipe. Today I want to show you another cheap, healthy, vegan and super easy dinner, that is light and perfect for summer evenings!
Today I start a post series called “Cheap & Healthy”.
Prospi and I have often been asked:
“Is it possible to eat healthy and at the same time cheap?”
I could write a whole article to answer this question. Of course it depends on what you consider as healthy and what as cheap. But the short answer is: YES. I’m convinced that you can eat healthy without spending a lot of money.
Many people would like to eat healthy, but see the costs as an obstacle. This is why I want to show you with this post series how you can enjoy delicious and healthy dinners that are really cheap.
